Tony established his own law practice in Kitchener, Ontario in 1976 which then included criminal defence work, family law and civil litigation. Several years after commencing his criminal defence practice, Tony was asked by William Morrison, then Chief Crown Attorney for Kitchener and now a retired Superior Court judge, to work as a part time crown attorney prosecuting criminal cases. Tony prosecuted criminal cases for several years at which point he restricted his practice to civil litigation and family law which, today, consumes all of his time and efforts. Tony’s approach to the practice of law is straightforward, direct and cost-efficient. With every family law client, Tony conducts a detailed initial interview and accumulates as much information as he can as quickly as he can. He then reviews the options for resolution of the dispute with his client and makes a recommendation to the client. Tony prefers to settle family law disputes and civil claims rather than litigate them in court because it is cheaper for the client, more efficient, and the client remains in control of the negotiations. However, if the issues cannot be quickly resolved by negotiation, Tony recommends proceeding to court to resolve the issues. In his thirty years of practice, Tony has acted for thousands of clients and has resolved matrimonial disputes and civil actions involving many millions of dollars. He has successfully argued and won hundreds of trials and numerous appeals at the Ontario Divisional Court and Court of Appeal. In civil litigation matters which include wrongful dismissal, partnership disputes, real estate litigation, commercial litigation, debtor/creditor litigation, collection matters and the like, Tony takes the same approach. He attempts settlement of every case at an early stage, if possible. If settlement is not possible, Tony recommends immediately proceeding to court to have the issues resolved by a judge expeditiously and as cost-efficiently as possible. Tony joined with Murray Morrison as a partner in 1997. Murray has extensive corporate commercial real estate experience which serves the other needs of clients in the firm. Tony and Murray believe that every client deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and given the best efforts they are capable of to assist them to resolve any issues they have. Tony is extremely proud of the fact that many Keller & Morrison clients have been clients since we started our respective practices and continue to be our clients and our friends today. Tony is the proud father of three adult children. He has served the community as a Big Brother, a member of the Board of Directors of Family and Children Services of the Waterloo Region, a member of the Board of Directors of Big Sisters, a member of the Board of Directors of Grand River Hospital, a long time member and past president of the Sertoma Club, and other community based organizations. Tony plays golf and has a single digit handicap. He is an avid photographer and woodworker. Tony looks forward to continuing to serve clients' needs and to assist resolving the issues which arise in the lives of individuals, partnerships and small businesses. |
